Jacob Ursua (b. 2003) is a photographer, designer, and mixed media artist currently based in Los Angeles, California.
Since 2017, his photographs have aimed to capture the quiet, imperfect, mysterious, and subtly beautiful aspects of his subjects, whether it be costumed figures, chaotic venues, narrative concepts, or scenes of everyday life. His style is punchy, highly saturated, full of texture, and encompasses both digital and film formats.
Jacob developed his skills during his upbringing in San Diego, working for local start up clothing brand Sewing Club and carrying his first camera, the Canon AE-1, around his shoulder everywhere he went.
He served as the Director of Editorial for the student-run organization Fashion and Student Trends at UCLA (FAST), exhibited at UCLA art galleries, worked with art collective Channel Medium, and is a graduation photographer.
Jacob Ursua’s design inspirations were founded in the worlds of science fiction, lettering, and engineering.
Childhood obsessions with Power Rangers, D.C. & Marvel comics, Ben 10, Tron, and Blade Runner combined with mechanical engineering design techniques, 3D printing, calligraphy, and graffiti style writing have led to Jacob’s alternative approaches to garment, accessory, and product design. His design process involves traditionally engineering focused software, such as SolidWorks and Autodesk, in addition to Blender and Procreate.
Jacob has developed and manufactured 2 fashion collections, consisting of entirely 3D printed accessories, fabrics, and garments for the FAST at UCLA Spring Runway.
His design work with street-wear brand Murd333r.FM was also showcased and sold at ComplexCon 2023.
